Ever wonder where your wonder went? As an adult, I find it difficult to be in wonder.
But my son has no problem with this. Here is a picture of Eli in wonder of his very first fish caught with his Granddad back in 2004.
To be in wonder is to be surprised or amazed. Wonder is astonishment, bewilderment, fascination, admiration and awe. Wonder is not a casual emotion or fake excitement. Wonder is much deeper being born in knowledge of His character, His nature, His grandeur and His attributes. It takes your breath away.
In His article entitled "Wonder, the missing ingredient of Worship", Lamar Boshman writes:
The mystery and the wonder of the Lord and his kingdom are lost in the explained and the contained. We have become victims of definitions, analysis, outlines, charts and procedures. The church once lived on the dangerous edge of the miraculous, but now we live in the safe fences of our explanations. And we dare not venture out to where the bushes are burning and men lay prostrate before the transcendent glory of God.
I want this. I need this. One line in Boshman's article states "When you get off the road of the explained and the defined and get lost in the forest of His greatness, then transcendent worship can happen." Lord, don't let us lose our wonder. May your story not be so familiar. And may we pause, pray and ponder the wonder of You.
