BCS Championship Game

It happened!  As predicted in Red Robin last Thursday, LSU's victory over Tennessee in the SEC Championship and the combination loss of No. 1 Missouri and No. 2 West Virginia has catapulted LSU into the BCS Championship Game.

It was a Monday night in 2005.  The only Monday night on record that LSU hosted a football game in Death Valley, thanks to Hurricane Rita.  LSU and Tennessee were in regular play and the half time score found LSU up 21 to zip.

The mistake:  I called my new friends in Memphis to celebrate the obvious victory.  It wasn't long before I wished I'd waited on that phone call.  LSU fell to be defeated by Tennessee.  It was a sad night in Baton Rouge.  As my phone rang off the hook, I promised myself to never, never, never call anyone at half-time.  Yes, I learned my lesson.

Up in Memphis there are many Hog fans like Betty and Charlie and Chuck and Angie.  Well, I'm still not over that loss last week.  So to my TN friends like Mary, Keith, Joey and Susan, I'll not make any prediction but I will definitely wait until after LSU beats Tennessee to make that phone call.

LSU vs Arkansas

Well every year we have a tradition.  On the Friday after Thanksgivng we don't shop.  We don't veg.  We make the pilgrimage to either Baton Rouge or Arkansas to watch the yearly LSU ARK game.  This year it's scheduled to be in Baton Rouge.  Since 2004, we've joined our friends Chuck and Angie from Memphis for the big game. They are Soooee  yelling, Snout wearing, card carrying, rabid Hog fans.  They were there with us last year in Little Rock sitting with us immediately in front of the LSU Tiger Marching Band.  WOW what seats!  If you ever get a chance to sit near the Tiger Band, do it.

Anyways, this year LSU tickets are hard to come by.  In fact, their connection fell through for Tickets and ebay Tickets are outrageous!  So we had come to the conclusion that tickets to Death Valley were out.  The tradition was to die. 

Then a light at the end of the tunnel.  My friend Scotty came through with 3 tickets.  What a friend.  Brandi's sister, Ava, will join us.  The tradition lives on!  Hopefully, we can hook up with Chuck and Angie next year in Fayetteville.

LSU 41 O'l Miss 24

Geaux Tigers!  What a season!  The Tigers have kept us excited and on the edge of our seats throughout the season.  After a slow start, LSU quickly gained dominance against Ol' Miss today.

Geaux Tigers!  LSU pulls out a win over Auburn.  A big thanks to Chris & Christine Boniol for inviting all Louisiana transplants in Flower Mound (and lovers of Louisiana) over to their house to watch the game.  Both Chris and Christine cooked up a good chicken and sausage gumbo that everyone loved.  A great LSU party.

LSU is on top of the AP polls this week.  It looks like a roller coaster ride is in store this year for the Top 10. Big game this weekend with LSU hosting Florida.  It would be so sweet if LSU ends up playing USC for the BCS Championship.  I think every cajun in South Louisiana would be at the Superdome for that game.

Football Saturday

I love this time of year.  Football Saturday.  ESPN's College GameDay was in Baton Rouge at LSU with the familiar Memorial Tower in the background.

To most Tiger Fans surprise, all the pundits are talking up LSU.  Typically, Herbsteit, Holtz and everyone in between fails to give LSU and the SEC due recognition.  It's almost scary to get so much support. Don't forget the Florida game last year.  LSU is favored by 12.  I think that is too high.  I predict this to be a close one.  I hope the Tigers come out strong tonight against VT.  The game is after 8pm so it will be a late night.

LSU Host ESPN GameDay this Weekend

It looks like ESPN has announced their Gameday will be in Baton Rouge this week.  I'll have to watch to see which mascot head Lee Corso puts on.   I am still not a fan of Kirk Herbstreit and his general love affair with USC and ND.  Chris Fowler brings a level head to the crew. 

College GameDay will highlight No. 2-ranked Tigers home football opener Saturday against No. 9-ranked Virginia Tech during their 9 a.m. pregame broadcast on the LSU Parade Grounds.  The Virginia Tech-LSU game will be televised by ESPN beginning at 8:15 p.m. On the call will be Brent Musburger, Herbstreit and Lisa Salters, the Saturday Night Football team for ABC games.
