Fisherman's Wharf in Hot Springs

Although our trip to Hot Springs kept us in and around the downtown area, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to have lunch on Lake Hamilton at The Fisherman's Wharf.

This restaurant has one of the best picturesque views of Lake.  The food is very reasonable and freshly flown in.  If you eat on the dock, the service is slow but at least you can take in the lake and mountains while you wait.

After a long hiatus, Brandi and I finally got back on the raw oyster bandwagon.  After the bad oysters in Sea Side, Florida, we just could not get near the things.  We both were deathly sick over the bad ones.  It's taken us 3 years to finally take the step. 

Outcome:  Thumbs up!  Although, I could only eat 4 of the dozen. I'm wadin' in on this one.  Next time - more Tabasco.

L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante

We had a wonderful time on our last day at DisneyWorld.  This afternoon and evening, we revisited Epcot and had a terrific time in Italy.  The architecture is this Disney recreation gives the impression of a very good reproduction of St. Marks Square in Venice.  There are many tempting gift shops.  In fact, every country contained items from its native land.  In Italy, we really debated buying some Italian Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinaigrette but decided it was safer to transport some Italian soap in our luggage.   

Italy's centre-piece restaurant is L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante.  It's not cheap, but has singing waiters, excellent theming, and fantastic Italian meals of fettuccine, chicken, veal and seafood. Our meal was excellent...

Brandi had Polletto Ruspante all'Uva

We really loved the atmosphere.  At one point, an Italian from Rome was singing Funiculì, Funiculà while we all waved our napkins in the air.  Great food, Great atmosphere.  In fact, I was able to coerce Brandi to sing O mio babbino caro, from "Gianni Schicchi" by Giacomo Puccini.  She did a great job singing this famous aria accompanied by the Italian accordion guy (video coming on that performance). 

The restaurant will be leaving soon. The word is that the original family is opening another place in the Orlando area outside of Epcot.  You have until the fall of 2007 to visit.

 

Trans Fat

Pot Luck at the Church

Today, there is a Pot Luck lunch at the church and with my luck, there will be nothing I can eat there.  I'm sure we'll see some Baptist Fried Chicken.  Although KFC is trying, I don't think I'll be lickin any fingers.

It's official: KFC is switching to oil with no trans fat, the company has announced.

The Louisville-based chain announced Monday that all 5,500 of its U.S. restaurants have stopped frying chicken in artery-clogging trans fat, according to the Associated Press. The company had said in October that it was switching to a new soybean oil believed to be less likely to cause heart disease.  But can they give me a grilled choice???

Sister brand Taco Bell also said Monday that its U.S. restaurants have completely switched to an oil with zero grams of trans fat. All 4,200 single-brand Taco Bells were converted to a canola oil, and all 1,400 multibrand locations switched to a soybean oil, the fast food chain said.

Of course, if you follow the Taco Bell Fourth Meal plan, I don't think it will make a big difference.
