It's been a great Birthday week-end. Eli got me this cool LSU water bottle for my birthday and many family & friends called or brought nice gift cards.
Brandi cooked up some of our old favorites from Louisiana. Saturday night, we invited some friends over to sample some of the savory, rich cajun cuisine. In fact, we're so far removed from eating that kind of rich food, that we're sick tonight from the feast. Now back on our regular diet.
For today, on my birthday, we went to church and then to Denton for some BBQ at Rudy's, a cool restaurant from our New Braunfels days. Typically I don't buy food from the same place you can gas up your car. Rudy's would be the exception. Started actually as Rudolf's Gas Station/Grocery Store in Leon Springs off I-10 near Houston, Rudy's is a no-frills, Texas BBQ success with over 25 locations mainly in Texas. They slow-cook their meat with oak wood without any sauce added....similar to Memphis BBQ minus the dry rub. Anyway,
it's good stuff. It was a great B-day lunch.
One interesting trivia note: down in New Braunfels, the Rudy's slogan was "Worst BBQ in Texas" playing off the German influence in that area. Up in North Texas, they dropped that slogan.
Sunday night, we're having a hurricane party watching Gustav tracking to the Louisiana coast. Ava & JJ are out of Lafayette and our friends in Baton Rouge are getting ready for a nasty storm heading their way. We'll be praying for all those affected by the storm.
