Well, I'm in Nashville for my 3rd re:create conference! Perry and I are checking out churches. Saturday night worship services are not a big thing here in Nashville like it is in Dallas. So the only church we found that had a Saturday service was Belmont Church located in the Music Row area.
As we were sitting in the partially filled worship center, the music begins and in walks the pastor followed by Michael W. Smith. Perry and I weren't sure if Michael was there to speak or just attend worship. After the music and the Lord's Supper, it was obvious that he planned to speak because they wired him up for sound.
Michael preached the sermon tonight. He had a great message of who God is, His Grace, and who we are as a child of God. At the end of the message he sang the song "Love In His Right Hand." Great message and song! In fact, the song was the exact song Leeland's Mom sang last year at re:create. I asked him about that song and he said he picked it up from those guys. His oldest daughter married one of the guys in Leeland's band so there is a definite connection past "Be Lifted High." Anyway, it was cool to hear that song again. In fact, Michael says he's releasing it on an upcoming project.
Michael can preach. He did a terrific job. It was very authentic and real. Belmont Church is where he grew up but he's been involved in a church start in Franklin, New River Church. But he's recently stepped aside from his leadership role there.
I was blessed to hear him speak. A different side of MWS. And we just stumbled onto it. Didn't even know he was to be there. A one time deal. So cool to stumble onto hearing him speak.
Perry with a beard. Interesting. I've never seen that before.
Sounds like you guys are having fun while life goes on at home. Wish I was there.
