Saturday night, Brandi, Eli and I went to a local production of Seussical. Memphis' Playhouse on the Square produced the show. Seussical, which premiered on Broadway in 2000, is a musical that combines many of Dr. Seuss characters into a hodgepod story that primarily focuses on Horton Hears a Who. It was worth the ticket price to see Eli's face light up. Brandi and I left unimpressed. The costumes were good and several actors did a terrific job. But the nominal sound and bad lighting took away from this production. Lighting effects were used but the lighting basics were ignored (ie. shadows on faces). A sound track instead of a live orchestra was used which actually gives them no excuse on the sound. On the positive, kudos to Kim Baker who did a terrific job of Gertrude McFuzz and Pete Montgomery who played Horton the Elephant.
